Transportation-Travel to Clinical Sites

Students must provide their own transportation to the clinical sites and other off-site locations which may be required for nursing class or clinical experiences. Clinical sites may be within a 100-mile radius of the program location.

Clinical Practice Manager and the Clinical Coordination Office work to put together clinical rotations using a combination of agencies that would provide a varied experience for students in accordance with the course objectives. When you join the profession, you will be working in different types of settings throughout your career. Regardless of which setting you choose to apply to and be employed by, exposure to those settings will make you comfortable and competent.

Agencies that accept nursing students for learning experiences have restrictions based on the number of students that each agency can accommodate at one time and the days that the agency is available to host students. These agencies are providing mentoring and teaching as part of their professional commitment to supporting the next generation of nurses, but they are not paid for their time or obligated to serve. Therefore, it takes a combination of agency placements to meet the required clinical hours, and they may be some distance away. Be flexible.

Aspen University’s SONHS, in conjunction with these agencies, makes every attempt to minimize the distance that students travel to their clinical experience, but additional travel may occur. We know attending clinical can be challenging, but your learning-experience is a valuable one and it will guide your future as a well-prepared professional.
