Grading Clinical Progress

Faculty Role

The Clinical Coordinator Course Faculty assumes the ultimate responsibility for the evaluation of the student. Faculty employ several methods, including communication with field supervisor, regular review of student's clinical logs documenting the student's clinical experiences, supportive evidence from the clinical field supervisor, and evaluation of assignments as outlined in the study guide of the course.

Field Supervisor Role

While the course faculty assumes ultimate responsibility for a formal written student evaluation, the field supervisor's input will provide supportive evidence for the ratings. The field supervisor's primary role is teaching. In the teaching process, the field supervisor will observe the student in practice. The field supervisor is positioned to collect data that gives evidence of student competence. Also, the field supervisor has the opportunity to support professional practice standards and the credibility. The field supervisor's observations of the student's performance should be compared with practice standards, validated with faculty, and shared with the student.
