Policy: Aspen University provides an electronic library for student usage. The electronic library is provided by the Virtual Librarian Service (VLS), a consortium of professional librarians all with at least a Master of Library Science degree from accredited American Library Association library and information science schools. VLS provides online library management, seven-day per week online library reference service, a centralized curated online and digital library, library instruction, library assessment administration, and accreditation reports.
Purpose: Library services are focused on student development of self-directed information literacy skills that support lifelong learning habits and transferable skill sets for the workplace. To assist in student success, the library team provides synchronous and asynchronous web-based orientations and web-accessible library instructional supports (e.g. access points to databases, library webpages, research guides, video tutorials, links to outside resources), as well as email reference seven days (98 hours) per week, for students requiring assistance conducting online literature searches in the databases and on the internet.
