301-7 Transfer Credit Policy

Title: Transfer Credit Policy
Owner: Registrar
Last Update/Revised: 07/31/2024

Policy: Aspen University recognizes that students may have earned credits at a previous institution or have prior experiential learning that are relevant to the degree the student is pursuing at Aspen University. Aspen University accepts credits earned from an appropriately accredited academic institution when the course content is deemed equivalent to that of an Aspen course and the course meets the minimum credit and grade requirements. In order to make that determination, Aspen University will conduct a comprehensive review of a student’s prior, submitted academic work. Aspen University will make every reasonable effort to provide students with an appropriate amount of transfer credit based upon their records. Aspen University adheres to the standards of good practice set forth by our accrediting bodies. Aspen University's Transfer Credit Policy, including information on transfer credit requirements and alternative paths to transfer credit can be found in the Academic Catalog.

At Aspen University, transfer credit is automatically reviewed for all applicants at the time of admissions as a part of the admissions process.  This transfer credit review is based on the official transcripts that the applicant had submitted at the time that their application is being reviewed. Transfer credit reviews are conducted by trained Registrar's Office employees who evaluate the content of each prior course for transferability and degree applicability. Transfer of credit into advanced nursing programs and doctoral programs are facilitated by the Registrar's Office, but additionally require Dean/Program Director approval before credit can be applied. Transfer credit equivalencies are stored in a third-party system, TES, to ensure equitability of transfer credit awarded across the student body.

Should a student submit additional transcripts post-acceptance, the Registrar's Office will review those transcripts for additional transfer credit. Received transcripts are reviewed daily by Registrar's Office staff. Should the student be awarded additional transfer credit, both the student and Academic Advisor and/or Enrollment Advisor are informed of the additional transfer credits awarded so that the student can better course plan and adjust their future registrations as needed.

Official transfer credit evaluations for each student are documented by the Registrar's Office within each student's file.

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to provide visibility and instruction for the University's transfer credit processes, promoting student success.
