Policy: Students must progress through the courses required for their degree in a prescribed order. The goal of this requirement is to ensure continued success and to confirm that students have an adequate foundation of knowledge to continue on in their program as the courses build. Assessment of student progress in a course is based on the timeliness of the student’s recognized participation in academic or academically related activities. If a student fails to demonstrate recognized academic participation within the first 7 consecutive days of a course, they will be administratively withdrawn from the course. In addition, if a student fails to demonstrate recognized academic participation for 14 consecutive days, they will be administratively withdrawn from the course. Students are subject to this policy throughout the entire course, including any officially approved course extensions. Detailed information can be found in the Academic Progress and Participation Policy in the Academic Catalog.
Additionally, students are required to maintain Continuous Enrollment throughout their degree program. Students are considered continuously enrolled while they are currently enrolled in a course and up to 30-days after a course is completed. During that time period the student’s status is considered active. After the 30-day period, should a student not commence with academic participation in their next course, the student will have their status changed to inactive. In the event the student does not enroll in their next course within 180 days and is not on an approved Leave of Absence, the student will be administratively withdrawn from the university. Students who are administratively withdrawn must reapply for admission. Detailed information can be found in the Continuous Enrollment Policy in the Academic Catalog.
Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to ensure students maintain continuous enrollment, participate adequately within their courses, stay on track for on-time graduation, improve communication between advising and students, and have clear communication among all departments.
